Hobby Transcript— Stamp Collecting
Tom: Hi Steve! How’s that new hobby coming along?
Steve: Do you mean stamp collecting?
Tom: Yes… Have you bought anything interesting lately?
Steve: Well, not yet. The really good ones are so expensive. It’s unbelievable. Did you know that the most expensive one sold for $8.3 million?
Tom: Seriously?
Steve: Yep…but I’ve got my sights set on something cheaper. It’s called the Penny Black. It was the world’s first adhesive stamp. It came out in 1840. I might be able to buy one for around $400. It’s all based on the condition. One sold for over $8 million!
Steve: That’s a lot of money.
Tom: You can say that again. What about you? Do you have any hobbies?
Steve: Not really…between all the chores that I have to do around the house and yard, I just can’t seem to find the time for a hobby. But, I’ll tell you this, whenever I have the time, I just like being with my family. We like to go for walks in the forest as often as we can. But I wouldn’t call that a hobby.
Tom: Well, if you had the time for a hobby, what would it be?
Steve: I’d say maybe scuba diving.
Tom: That’s an interesting one.
Steve: Yep… the bad thing is that when I was a little kid I watched the movie “Jaws” and that gave me thalassophobia.
Tom: What’s that?
Steve: I have a fear of being in deep water.
Tom: I think that movie gave a lot of people that phobia. When did it come out?
Steve: I think it was in 1974.
Tom: That sounds about right. I think I didn’t go swimming at all that summer!
